Representatives of “Georgian Amelioration” and the World Bank mission have held the meeting with the members of the Water Users Organization (WUO)
A Water Users Organization is the best form of engaging farmers in the irrigation water management system. Such unions are successfully operating in many countries worldwide. Farmers create the union themselves and manage irrigation water use process themselves.
At the working meeting held by the representatives of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd and the World Bank mission with the WUO board members and staff, the parties discussed the ways to solve main challenges facing the WUO.
As is was mentioned at the meeting, joint work will facilitate to the strengthening of water users organizations, which will significantly improve the process of irrigation scheme management and agricultural development in future.
After the working meeting, the participants visited the right main canal of Kvemo Samgori irrigation scheme. It’d be noted that the first water users organization (Sagarejo-1), uniting 184 local farmers, has been established in the area of G-16 and G-31 distribution canals of the right main canal of Kvemo Samgori irrigation scheme and includes the villages of Giorgitsminda, Ninotsminda and Tskarostavi.
In tight cooperation with “Georgian Amelioration”, the WUO Sagarejo-1 plans to supply irrigation water to its members and significantly improve amelioration services.
